Agents and Managers in Massachusetts

M.G.L. Chapter 140, Section 180B requires that booking agents, personal agents, and managers be licensed.  The penalty for not being properly licensed is a fine of not more than five hundred dollars or by imprisonment for up to one year or both.  We help agents and managers, operating in Massachusetts, get licensed.

The Process

Getting the Paperwork Together

The process of applying for your license is multifaceted, requiring the acquisition of various notices, reports, and approvals that must be submitted along with your application to the Division of Professional Licensure. (the "DPL"), which operates under the jurisdiction of the Office of Public Safety and Inspections of the Commonwealth.

A Massachusetts-licensed attorney will work with and for you, to keep the process moving forward, until your application is finalized and submitted for consideration.

Cost and Benefits

Your Budget

Costs:  The Commonwealth charges a $375.00 application fee.  There are also costs to give public notice of your intention to become licensed and for the purchasing of a surety bond.

Fees:  Our legal fees are billed at a reasonable hourly rate, which we may cap, to assemble your application and (if required) to represent you at a hearing before the DPL to consider your application.  We accept all major credit cards, in addition to other forms of payment.

Budget:  The total cost, depending on the complexities of the case, should be in a range of between $2,500.00 and $3,500.00 (including fees and costs).  In complicated or contested cases, requiring more time and effort, the fee would be greater.

Benefit:  Adhering to M.G.L. Chapter 140, Section 180B, a criminal statute, offers several benefits. By complying with this law, individuals can avoid the risk of imprisonment and can rest assured that their revenue streams from entertainment industry contracts will not be vulnerable to legal challenges on the grounds of unenforceability due to public policy violations. In essence, following this statute provides a secure legal framework for conducting business as an agent or manager in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Time it Takes

Keeping the Process Moving

The application process requires a significant amount of time to complete, often spanning several months or more. Among the necessary steps are providing public notices, obtaining relevant certificates to demonstrate your legal business status, establishing the proper zoning of your physical office location, securing appropriate bonding, and the scheduling for any required hearings with the DPL.  ManagersLicense.Com is dedicated to working alongside you throughout the entire process, even when complications arise or the process becomes stalled (for any reason), to move the process forward until the job is finished.
